Do's and Don'ts

Do's:

• ICT
  • Houd rekening met kennis en gebruik van computers.
  • Zorg dat de pc's het doen, beschikbaar en bereikbaar zijn
  • zorg voor technische ondersteuning.
  • Bedenk vooraf welke ICT-tool je wilt gebruiken in het project (bijv. website, wiki, video conference etc...) en wat de meerwaarde ervan is voor leerlingen en docenten.
• Draagvlak
  • zorg voor ondersteuning door schoolleiding
  • maak het project in de school bekend.
  • Bespreek duidelijk de individuele en formuleer gemeenschappelijke doelstellingen
  • betrekken van én de betrokkenheid van de docenten
  • Leg een programmaboekje in de personeelskamer.
  • Overleg in de sectie of er behoefte is om een internationaal project te doen.
  • Vraag de ICT-paraplugroep om ideeën!
• Draaiboek.
  • begin op tijd met de planning.
  • wanneer vindt het plaats?
  • programmaboekje maken.
  • subsidies op tijd aanvragen.
  • regelmatig overleg op eigen school.
  • regelmatig overleg met partnerschool.
  • vooraf informatie naar ouders en leerlingen en collega's.
  • website maken voor info tijdens uitwisseling.
  • evaluatie van het project.
  • deelnemende docenten zoeken.
• Zelfreflectie
  • Wat zijn de (eigen) sterke en zwakke kanten?
• Organisatie
  • heldere afspraken over communicatie, taken, verantwoordelijkheden
  • vermeld doelgroepen van het project, opleidingsniveau, communicatietaal
  • facilitering deelnemende docenten aan het project
  • Het is erg belangrijk om de toekomstige partnerschool van tevoren te bezoeken. Op deze manier kun je gemakkelijker en betere afspraken maken!
  • Vergeet niet tijdens een reis jezelf en de lln afwezig te melden bij je teamleider/administratie.
  • Begin eenvoudig!
  • Luister en kijk vooral wat collega's doen (vindt zelf het wiel niet opnieuw uit)
  • Controleer of bezoekers aan Nederland een visum nodig hebben
  • Controleer of bezoekers aan Nederland een health inssurance nodig hebben
• Inhoud van een project
  • geef aan of het een vakoverschrijden of vakgebonden project is.
  • probeer in een project met ten minste twee vakken te doen
• Cultural differences
  • Respecteer schoolcultuur (geef elkaar voldoende ruimte, tijd en mogelijkheden)
  • Rekening houden met culturele verschillen en andere onderwijssystemen
• Financieel
  • vraag de subsidie een jaar voor de uitwisseling aan bij het Europees Platform onder de noemer BIOS

• Fysical exchanges

  •  

    Denk bij het opstellen van een programma ook aan vrije tijd voor je gasten.

• Information

  • Veel informatie is te vinden op Internet, bijv. Kennisnet (veel projectideeën; van emailproject tot ....Learning Circle)

  • Do search in e-twinning.com

  • Stuur gewoon een mail om eerste contacten te leggen. Mijn ervaring is dat vooral Canadese collega's erg enthousiast zijn.

Dont's:

• ervan uitgaan dat iedereen zijn werk doet.

• zaken doordrukken.

• niet altijd dezelfde docenten mee laten doen aan de uitwisseling.

•  Als je geen ervaring hebt met ict, stort je dan niet meteen in een omvangrijk ict-project.

• Don't underestimate the time involved

• Don't underestimate the joy you share in Internationalisation

• Don't loose any time, hurry up in finding a partner for international projects.

Do’s

• ICT
  • Take into account the fact that you use computers so you need to know how to work with them.
  • Make sure that the computers work and are available.  
  • Make sure that you have technical back-up.
  • In advance think of which ICT-tool you want to use during the project (e.g. website, wiki, video conference etc.) and what the extra value is for pupils and teachers. 
• The basis
  • Make sure you have the backup of the schoolboard and the principal.
  • Tell about the project at you school, advertise.
  • Set individual and joint aims.
  • Make sure teachers are involved/ Get teachers involved.
  • Put a programmebooklet in the staffroom / advertise on the school website
  • Find out if there is a need for an international project within the different departments of the school.
  • Ask the ICT-group for ideas. 
• Scenario
  • Start planning on time.
  • When will it take place?
  • Make a programme booklet.
  • Apply for Financial aid on time.
  • Regular meetings at own school.
  • Regularly contact partnerschools.
  • Information in advance for parents, pupils and colleagues.
  • Make a website for information during the exchange.
  • Evaluate the project.
  • Find participating teachers. 
• Selfcontemplation  
  • What are (your own) strenghts and weaknesses.
• Organisation  
  • Make clear appointments on communication, tasks, responsibilities.
  • Mention targetgroups of the project, educational level, communication language.
  • Facilitate participating teachers of the project
  • It is very important to visit the future partnerschool in advance. This way you can make better appointments easily.
  • Don’t forget to notify the administration that you and your pupils will be absent.
  • Start simple!
  • Listen and look at what your colleagues do.
  • Check if visitors to the Netherlands need a visa.
  • Check if visitors to the Netherlands need health insurance.  
• Project content
  • Mention if the project is subjectbased or not
  • Try to make a project based on at least two subjects to make teachers work together.
• Cultural differences
  • Respect the school culture (give each other enough space, time and possibilities)
  • Take into account the cultural differences and educational systems.  
• Financially
  • Apply for the Financial aid for the exchange a year in advance at the European Platform; under the name BIOS

·         Physical exchanges

o         When making the programme take into account that the guests also want some spare time.

·         Information

o        A lot of information can be found on the net, e.g. Kennisnet (a lot of projectideas; emailprojects to… Learning Circle)

o        Do search in e-twinning.com

o        Just send an email to make contact. My experience is that Canadian colleagues are often very enthusiastic.

Dont's:

• Don’t just think that everyone will do what must be done.
• Make sure that you get things done
• Don’t let the same teachers go on each exchange
• If you don’t have ict experience, do not start working on a big ict-project
